It came invisible, it came inaudible. It came fast and still it was slow. It wasn't expected ever. It's aMule-2.2.5 - "never say never". This version fixes some serious bugs of the previous release. You're strongly encouraged to upgrade. Please see the Changelog for details. Grab the sources or official packages at the download page or check the forum for user contributed packages. Yes. 9600 is immune, but don't use any version before 9600, they have a serious bug, which fortunately didn't affect the 2.2.x series. Any version starting from 9600 is safe.

How critical is it to upgrade? I ask because I'm using FreeBSD and the ports collection is still only up to 2.2.4 and I have problematic experiences with trying to use stuff outside the ports collection.
Is the security issue likely to be a problem if I add files manually from links, not from searches? The last part issue is bad for the network and I believe many clients will ban you if you keep sending them corrupt parts but I guess isn't quite so critical.
I guess going back down to 2.2.3 will help with the last part thing but am I right it won't help with anything else?

Forget the security issue, it's about as risky as that one. The last part issue is only critical if you want to release something because then it will never complete. You don't send corrupt parts (the connection simply breaks), and so you won't get banned. Still I suggest you upgrade. (Hell, Linux is getting more inflexible than Windows with that distro thingy.  ) |

Well, aMule is a simple program that doesn't require install. Like eMule, dump it in a directory and be done. To a Windows user I would have said "download the zip with the 2.2.5 app and extract it to your aMule directory" and good. With Linux, people are (rightly) afraid to mess up their package manager if they simply do that. Not to talk of all the fun with varying versions of all the dynamically linked libs...

Downloaded 2.5.5 a day ago; would not open on my OSX 10.4.11. My 2.2.2 kept working, but restarted and now that has vanished. Went to official site, "0 files" for OSX, for either 2.2.4 or 2.2.5.
Will it be working soon? Can I get back my 2.2.2 somehow?
